How to Check an Online Casino Licence

A practical framework for matching a licence claim to an operator, a domain and the relevant jurisdiction.

Start with three separate questions

Who operates the website? Which authority issued the claimed permission? Does that permission cover the service and location relevant to you? Those questions are related, but a positive answer to one does not settle the other two.

A licence badge is a claim made on a website. Independent verification means finding the corresponding record through the regulator’s own service and checking the details. A copied image, an old screenshot or a link to another affiliate page is weaker evidence.

Match the details, not just the name

Record the exact domain, legal entity, registration number, licence identifier and stated regulator. Then compare them with the official record. Brands can use several companies, and similarly named companies can be unrelated. A trading name may not be the name in a register.

  • Check whether the record is current, suspended, surrendered or otherwise limited.
  • Read which activities and domains the record covers.
  • Look for relevant conditions and published regulatory action.
  • Keep the source URL and check date with your notes.

Use the correct regulator

For Great Britain, the Gambling Commission provides a public-register service covering licensees and regulatory actions. That service is evidence about its own regulatory remit; it is not a worldwide list. A licence issued elsewhere does not automatically demonstrate authorisation in Great Britain or in any other market.

What a licence does not establish

A register entry does not measure current withdrawal times, verify every marketing claim or insure an account balance. These require different evidence. Similarly, an inaccessible register is a research gap, not permission to describe a licence as verified.

In Casinodur profiles, an operator-published licence statement is labelled as such until direct checking supports stronger wording. See our methodology for the distinction.
